Enhancing Operational Performance on an Offshore NUI
CHALLENGE:
Performing conventional wireline operations on this normally unattended installation previously required a complex temporary intervention spread. The wireline mast was mounted on a dedicated plinth to distribute deck loading whilst accessing wells located close to the platform edge. Although this arrangement had been successfully used for many years, it required considerable rig-up time and introduced a number of operational challenges, including additional lifting activities, temporary scaffolding, increased deck congestion and manual handling. Toolstring changeouts required personnel to work beneath a suspended lubricator from temporary scaffolding, increasing personnel exposure during one of the most frequently repeated activities of Wireline interventions.
SOLUTION:
The InterFrame™ was developed to simplify offshore wireline operations by replacing the conventional mast and plinth arrangement with a compact surface intervention system. During toolstring change-outs, the system fully supports the lubricator at deck level, eliminating the need for personnel to work beneath suspended loads, nor from temporary scaffolding. By removing the mast plinth and reducing lifting activities, the InterFrame™ also minimises deck congestion, reduces manual handling and significantly shortens Intervention rig-up time. The result is a simpler, safer and more efficient method of performing wireline interventions, particularly on space-constrained normally unattended installations.
OPERATIONAL RESULTS:
The greatest operational benefit delivered by the InterFrame™ was the simplification of the entire intervention spread.
The compact footprint also improved access around the wellhead, while supporting the lubricator at deck level enabled faster, safer and more controlled toolstring change-outs throughout the campaign. The InterFrame™ successfully supported multiple wireline runs, including a insert valve replacement, logging surveys, and TR-SSSV investigation. The intervention was completed incident free, all planned well objectives were achieved, and the campaign was delivered within the operator’s target cost envelope of ±10% TCE P50.
CONCLUSION:
The successful deployment of the InterFrame™ demonstrated that a conventional wireline mast is no longer the only practical solution for offshore wireline intervention. By integrating lifting, access and lubricator handling into a single system, the InterFrame™ simplified the intervention spread while maintaining the performance expected from a conventional wireline operation.
